Bell Array Bicycle Helmet
The Bell Array is a svelte, well ventilated bike helmet for serious riders that packs protection and comfort into a low weight package. Offered at nearly half the price of similarly featured helmets, the Array is also a great value.
The Array amps up Bell's durable, Fusion in-molded microshell with internal reinforcement that makes the helmet both stronger and lighter. The helmet is reinforced from below with an in-mold microshell bottom wrap that adds to the helmet's aesthetics and increases its protective strength. Meanwhile, 24 channeled vents maintain airflow--ushering cool air in--and flushing warm air out--regardless of how fast or slowly you are riding.
The Array comes in three adult sizes for a close fit out of the box. The helmet's Twin Axis Gear (TAG) fit system then allows the rider to dial in an exact circumferential fit as well as dial in a secure horizontal position on the back of the head. Meanwhile, Cam-Lock levers allow the rider to position the chin strap quickly and easily for a proper fit around the ears. The Array is topped off with unique, registered Bell graphics.
TECHNOLOGIES
TWIN AXIS GEAR (TAG): Bell’s next-generation Twin Axis Gear (TAG) fit system adjusts to the head on two axes--circumferentially as standard fit systems do, but also horizontally to better accommodate differences in the up/down position of the occipital lobe. For added comfort Bell's co-molded the system arms with soft rubber and positioned them higher to better accommodate eyewear. The result is a highly adjustable, comfortable, and easy-to-use fit system.
CAM-LOCK LEVERS: Bell’s Cam-Lock strap levers make it easy to adjust the straps around your ears. Simply open the cam, position the strap comfortably and close the lever.
CHANNELED VENTILATION: Specially designed ventilation channels on the interior of the helmet's liner bring cool air in through the front, pass it over the head and flush warm air out of the rear ports. These deeply sculpted channels are designed to keep air moving whether you're bombing it at 30 mph, or huffing it uphill at single digit speed.
FUSION IN-MOLD MICROSHELL: In-molding is the process of bonding the helmet’s Microshell to its EPS foam layer to provide a sturdier, more solid helmet. The EPS foam is shot into the thin Microshell cap when it’s in the mold--rather than formed separately and taped on later. This process was pioneered by Bell and is now the industry standard for high-end helmets.
IN-MOLD BOTTOM WRAP: In-Mold bottom wraps bring a new level of durability, solidity and aesthetics to helmets. By bonding Microshell material to the lower half of the helmet, In-Mold bottom wraps cover what on most helmets is a less durable, exposed EPS foam.
INTERNAL REINFORCEMENT: In order to maximize venting and minimize bulk, high-end helmets feature internal reinforcement structures. This composite skeleton fortifies the helmet the same way rebar makes concrete stronger, allowing for bigger vents, more advanced styling and lighter weight, while still meeting stringent safety standards.
REGISTERED GRAPHICS: Bell designers have pioneered methods for registering graphics, so that they can make some of the most graphically complex and visually appealing helmets in the world.

OK...I admit it...I don't have much use for bicycle helmets. I don't know how I've been riding for 50+ years and survived without wearing a helmet. I guess the same way I survived riding around in a car for many years before seatbelts and kid car seats. I must just be a survivor.
My problem with bike helmets years ago when people first started considering using them was they were heavy and they made you feel like you were a benched linebacker. They were like wearing a heated kettle in the summer and what do you do with it when you weren't riding? No...I don't need to wear a darn helmet.
Then I started to do a little mountain biking. Not quite the same as my past experience and now that I've reached the "age of maturity" and my nagging spouse has honed her skills...I decided to consider the merits of riding with a little protection for my noggin.
This brings me to the part where I share my experience of the Bell Array. I knew I wanted a Bell helmet because of past experience riding motorcycles. If I'm going to consider riding my mountain bike with a helmet on my head I wanted the quality of construction Bell is known for. I knew my decision on the Bell Array was a good one after the first ride. This thing is comfortable, very light weight, and most surprising to me was that it was "airy". It's almost like having a fan built into the helmet the way the air is channeled and circulated. I'm of the opinion that it very much feels like you aren't wearing anything at all...I like that for obvious reasons. That and the fact that it's one less thing that "she who must be obeyed" has to nag me about.
If you're like me and would prefer not to wear a pot on your head when taking a non-competitive bike ride but good sense or a nagging wife dictates otherwise...I highly recommend that you give the Bell Array a look. It's very lightweight, easily adjustable, comfortable, and cool. It's made for people who otherwise might hate bike helmets just as I did.

I purchased this helmet after hitting a dog at 30mph and destroying my old one. I was looking for comfort, air-flow, and weight, in that order. The primary reason I ordered from Amazon was they had this helmet for a great price, and I could get it here quick.
Functionally, this helmet has been great. I get plenty of air-flow through the vents to keep my head cool, and I have done several 2-3 hour rides, and rarely notice this helmet. Hopefully I won't need another helmet for a few more years, but if I do, this will likely be it.

I crashed my bike 2 weeks ago by hitting a dog while doing about 20 mph. There was nothing I could do, not enough time to react, and I couldn't even get my hands out to brace myself. I landed head first with the Bell Array taking the force of a 300lbs rider falling onto it without anything else to soften the blow to the head but the helmet.
The helmet cracked in 5 places, the foam compressed to 1/2 the thickness it normally is, the plastic of the helmet allowed the helmet (and me) to continue travelling forward which likely lessened the overall force to the head.
I feel that I'm fortunate to be alive and question whether I would still be alive if it wasn't for my Bell Array helmet.
My recent purchase of this helmet is to replace the one broken in the crash. I trust this helmet with my life.
