By J. Diaz
Hello everyone. Hope you all had wonderful holidays.
I'm a weekend road bike warrior riding between 45-80km/week on various road terrains and sometimes amateurly racing on a Specialized S-Works frame, LOOK carbon fork, Spinergy wheels, Shimano 105 components, Alanera carbon handlebars, CF02 carbon seat post, Bontrager RL Inform seat, etc., etc...I'm an experience amateur riding bikes for about 15 years now every chance I get. A few weeks ago, my old helmet was stolen (curse those theives!), and so I was in the market for a new one, but the economy being as it is, I didn't feel like spending a lot of money for a hobbie, so I thought I'd try this helmet. Also, my wife recently wanted to road bike also, transitioning from mountain biking, so I got her one also for Xmas. Now on to the helmet...
The Giro Transfer helmet is quite a nice helmet and is really priced to move. Amazon was pretty speedy in getting the helmet delivered too. I ordered the helmet on 12th and received it on the 18th of December, just in time for the weekend amateur road race. It came well packed in a Giro box inside an Amazon box.
That being said, I was impressed with the light weight of the helmet, as well as the universal fit adjusting system in the back of the helmet/head. Most helmets of this price category use a type of adjustment system that involves the sliding of straps and the placement of strap clamps to somewhat more-or-less properly adjust your helmet. I've never gotten a comfy fit from those systems. This helmet, however, has a dial mechanism that adjusts the helmet to your head much better than any helmet I've seen in this price category. Giro did well to put this mechanism on the helmet, as it's much less complicated than having to readjust the straps one way, then another, etc., as with the sliding systems. You usually find this mechanism on higher priced helmets.
As for the looks and riding coolness (temperature) of the helmet, many cycling partners were impressed with its look and design and the amount of air ducts it has. The helmet is quite comfortable, light and cool on the road, and I road bike in an area where at 7am, it's already 86+ F, warm, humid & tropical.
Although I hope to never find out, the helmet is quite compact and rigid and tough, and I feel quite secure wearing it. In fact, I feel so secure, I'm a bit more daring on some curves, especially those where I'm leading the group. With Giro's reputation, I'm sure it would hold up well if I were to have a fall. Let's just pray I don't.
Ok, that's it, hope this has helped you in your decision while looking for a road bike helmet. Take care.

By RoundHead
Good looking helmet, adds less bulk to my big head and avoids the 'mushroom' appearance my last helmet had. My big head measures 23.5" around and is of average proportions. This helmet just fits me at the largest adjustment. It's really quite perfect for me, but if you're any larger than 23.5", you will need a larger helmet. I had to only use one of the included adhesive pads to protect to crown of my head. I also shave my head, your hair will keep you from needing this.
I compared this to the other 4-letter brand in this price range at a local store. Overall build quality looks better than the other brand: better quality straps, the size adjustment system actually works without binding or loosening up, overall higher quality feel than the competition. Also, there is more styrofoam protecting the lower back of the head that the others. It's no BMX helmet, but I feel more protected than in the other brand.
As others have mentioned, the adjustment straps may cause discomfort near your cheek. I was able to adjust these flat, but you should try the helmet before buying it.
Whoever packaged this helmet was very ignorant. The shipping box was fine, but the manufacturer's box had a 2"x4" hole punched into it, and the foam on the back of the helmet was slightly damaged. Since I'll probably scratch it more on my own, I didn't return it, but this was also because the return shipping outweighs any discount Amazon provided me. Usually Amazon has satisfied, but it's inexcusable to send a damaged product. Just beware, if you want a 'brand new' helmet without a scratch, you may want to cough up the extra eight bux and pick it out at the store.

Let me say that I hate the way bike helmets look. I'm a former skateboarder / BMX rider so the whole spandex tights / mushroom helmet thing doesnt work for me. I'm a casual rider (soft tail with hybrid tires) and I ride about 5 - 10 miles a day of mixed pavement / trails. I generally don't even wear a helmet but was trying to set a good example for my 9 year old she she would wear hers. I was looking for a reasonable comfortable, least dorky looking bike helmet I could find. This fits the bill, it's comfortable, breathes well and has a lower profile than all the other helmets I've tried on. Construction seems solid and the straps and adjustements work well (though the wheel in the back is a bit of a pain to work). Still a great casual, general purpose bike helmet for (imo) a low price. 4 starts
